Category C + E Driver Training

The LGV C+E (HGV 1) driving test is conducted at the DSA large goods vehicle driving test centre with an off road manoeuvring area.

 

There is now 2 Tests on this course (Introduced 15th November 2021) 

3A Test lasts about 20 minutes. This is an off road reversing exercise & Coupling and un coupling.

You will be required to a complete a reversing exercise accurately and safely. The 3 things they are looking for are control, accuracy and observations. These will all be demonstrated to you by your instructor and fully explained what they are looking for.

3A MUST BE PASSED TO BE ABLE TO DO 3B TEST. 3B WILL BE FORFEITED IF FAILED 3A BEFORE 3B.

3B Test on road driving which lasts about 60 minutes. A HIGH standard of driving is required to pass this test.

 

At the start of the test you will be asked a few questions relating to the safety and loading of the vehicle.

 

You will then drive on varying roads and in varying traffic conditions for about 50 minutes (minimum),  this can include motorways where possible. You will also complete uphill, downhill and angled starts and an element of independent driving. You will need to demonstrate a high standard of driving throughout the test.

You will return back to the Test Center for your results.

We use an MAN Automatic Artic & MAN Wagon & Drag providing you have passed a manual car or cat C lorry licence you will gain a manual cat C+E licence from this vehicle as well.

We use an automatic as most hauliers use them now and we have found this is what they are looking for.

 

Age: 18+ 

The LGV C+E licence is for drivers 18 Years and over

 

Course Requirement: Hold a Full LGV C (HGV 2) and a provisional LGV C+E licence or If you dont have a class 2 already, Medical, Provisional and Theories. 

 

Course length: Typically 16-20 hours including the test time. If you do not have a Class 2 Licence already this course minimum will be 32 hours. 

 

It is the trainees responsibility to ensure they have the correct entitlement, failure to have the right entitlement will mean the course will be forfeited and all monies lost. We can assist to you to make sure you gain the correct entitlement but no responsibility will be accepted by WTTS if you apply for the wrong one.
